Lake Michigan College Annual Music Orientation Day

BENTON TOWNSHIP - Students interested in the Lake Michigan College Music Department are invited to attend Music Orientation Day on Thursday, August 16. A general student information meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in the Mendel Center's Hanson Theatre on the Napier Avenue campus, followed by tours of the music facilities, individual auditions and music theory placement testing. The meeting is for both new and returning students and will include information on the LMC music program and careers in music.

Individual auditions are required for music scholarship consideration and for placement into the program. Scholarships are awarded competitively to qualified students who meet academic requirements and complete an audition, are musically talented, who wish to major or minor in music, and are interested in participating actively in LMC ensembles and music classes. Music scholarships are awarded to students regardless of their major field of study. The awards include the Board of Trustees and endowed scholarships, ranging from $100 to full tuition. Music scholarships are renewable, pending successful completion of individual scholarship requirements.

LMC offers a music major program that provides the first two years of a four-year degree program leading to careers in music education, music therapy, music business, arts technology, composition and arranging, and church music. Many opportunities for performance are available for students including Concert Choir, Southshore Concert Band, Jazz Band, Voices LMC, chamber ensembles, student recitals, master classes, clinics, and choral and band festivals. LMC students have transferred successfully into four-year music programs throughout the state and nationally.
